Adobe MAX 2009: What’s The Harvest?

Posted in Together

The beginning of the month brought lots of significant news to worldwide creative minds. Much of this is obliged to Adobe MAX 2009 that took place in Los Angeles during October 4-7. Tons of breaking announcements were made and heaps of future-shaping ideas were generated. MAX 2009 offered more than 200 sessions and 100 labs where worldwide decision makers, designers and developers could discover the innovations and successful practices of modern web building and designing.

The conference is over and it’s time to sum up its main news and achievements. Below you can find a brief overview of the major MAX 2009 sessions as well as some interesting videos and references.

Adobe & iPhone: To Flash Or Not To Flash?

Apparently, the answer is “To Flash, but only in part”. Adobe delivered a big bang for all the Flash community at Max 2009 by releasing details of its upcoming Flash Player 10.1 and Adobe Flash CS 5. In fact, this means Flash is coming to the web browsers of mobile devices, smartphones, Pocket PCs, netbooks, notebooks and desktop computers …but not to iPhone.

Flash Pro CS5 (public beta is expected before the end of 2009!) will enable to build applications for iPhone and iPod touch using ActionScript 3. These applications will be delivered to iPhone and iPod touch users through the Apple App Store. This is surely exciting news for iPhone app developers and consumers. Apple lets in only a part of Flash platform to iPhone: new version of Flash Player won’t be available on iPhone so far and users won’t be able to view web content built on Flash technology in the iPhone browser. This means no flash video, games, interactive web pages and dynamic Ready Photo Site Galleries for iPhone owners. Sadly, but iPhone is a closed territory of Apple, so we may just hope that Mac guys will be more hospitable to the folks from Adobe Flash.

At MAX 2009, Adobe showed a number of applications for iPhone developed within a pre-release version of Flash Professional CS5. You can already download these apps from the App Store.

1. What are the delicacies for photographers?

Perhaps Adobe MAX 2009 is not a must-attend event for photographers, but as long as you use Photoshop in your work, the conference offers much yummies to you.

Russel Brown @MAX 2009

A tasty dessert for all Photoshop users was a three-day hands-on course by Russel Brown - an Emmy Award-winning instructor and senior creative director at Adobe. This additional to the standard MAX 2009 program session brought together top designer, illustrators, art directors and photographers to learn advanced imaging tips and techniques with Adobe Photoshop CS4. If you couldn’t make $1,795 to visit Brown’s class at Max 2009, you would probably afford the “retelling” event where you will learn all the tricks presented at the conference for a more acceptable price. Here is a suggestion of such post-conference course in Canada. Go to http://groups.adobe.com to find a conference debrief in your area.
